Challenge

Climate change is not only an environmental threat, but also a humanitarian crisis that requires a compassionate and urgent response.

It all started when during a trip to Austria, I had the opportunity to meet people from Pakistan who shared their experiences and feelings about the devastating floods that hit their country. Their stories touched me deeply and inspired me to do something to draw attention to the impact of climate change on their communities.

Thus was born the idea of Pafloodstan, a virtual reality art project that would allow people to connect in an immersive way with the experiences of those suffering the ravages of climate change. After returning to Colombia, I immersed myself in the research and development of this unique experience.

Target

Technology can be a powerful tool to inspire change, but only if we use it with purpose and empathy.

I started with sketches and prototypes of the K2 mountain and the situation in Pakistan, which helped me to better visualize the project. I then created virtual reality prototypes to test different approaches and refine them as I went along. I gathered information about the history, culture and challenges specific to the region, and communicated with people in Pakistan and other parts of the world to get authentic perspectives.

The goal was to create a powerful and immersive experience that would allow viewers to truly understand and connect with the people and communities affected by climate change. I used virtual reality technology to transport users into the heart of the action, and incorporated cultural and traditional elements to bring the story to life.

Result

Pafloodstan is not just a virtual reality experience, it is a call to action to protect our fellow humans and our shared home.

After months of hard work, Pafloodstan finally took shape: a captivating virtual reality experience that immerses the viewer in the consequences of climate change and fosters empathy and awareness. This project has been recognized in the Young Climate Prize, an annual art competition that highlights young people working to raise awareness of this crucial issue.

With Pafloodstan, I hope to inspire more people to take action and protect our planet and its most vulnerable inhabitants. This is just the first stage of an exciting journey towards a more sustainable and compassionate future.
